Bike the Bend 2017, sponsored by the Whiteside County Farm Bureau Foundation, is a two-day, weekend bike ride, August 5 and 6, along the Mighty Mississippi from Savanna to Port Byron. Both days will begin with a mass start from the AmericInn hotel in Fulton.
SATURDAY: ROUND TRIP FULTON TO SAVANNA 47 MILES Saturday’s ride will use country blacktop roads and The Great River Trail for an easy ride to Savanna and back. Highlights will include the scenic bluffs, Upper Mississippi Wildlife Refuge, Sand Prairie Nature Preserve, and Lock and Dam 13. Riders will enjoy an event dinner Saturday evening in Fulton. SUNDAY: ROUND TRIP FULTON TO PORT BYRON 57 MILES Sunday’s ride will take rolling country blacktops and The Great River Trail to the Will B. Rolling bicycle statue in Port Byron and back. The ride will go through the Albany Indian Mounds Historic Site, past Fulton's authentic Dutch Windmill, and provide more awesome views of the Mississippi. Sag stops and sag support will be provided both days. An evening meal will also be provided on Saturday. Lunch will be on your own both days and the maps will list many options. If you want to enjoy more of the area, come Friday evening for an on-your-own (map provided) ride across the Mississippi River. Possible adventures on the Iowa side include a challenging trip up to Eagle Point Park for spectacular views of Pool 13 and a scenic ride south on the Clinton dike. Dining options in both Fulton and Clinton will be provided.
